What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Wilbarger Street Church of Christ.  All of our teaching and ministry are rooted in and flow out of these biblical truths.

God

There is one eternally existing God who exists as a fellowship of three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
He is the creator of all that exists, both visible
and invisible, and is worthy of all glory and praise.
God is perfect in power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. Above all, God is love.
He is unchangeable in his nature and character and is therefore the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Revelation

God has revealed himself to us through creation, through the holy scriptures, and most importantly through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God.

The Bible

The Bible is the authoritative word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and is vital for
helping us understand God’s will for our lives. We read Scripture not just for information,
but as a way to encounter God. The purpose of Scripture is to lead us into a personal
relationship with Him.

Mankind

Humans were created in God's image for His glory. They were made to partner with God in the good and perfect rule of His creation.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose independence rather than God,
their fellowship with God was broken, and all creation has been fractured ever since. God, however, did not give up on the world. Instead, because of his great love,
he began implementing a plan to rescue it.

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us to God, restore what was lost in the Fall, and heal all that’s broken. Fully God and fully human, he was born of a virgin, lived a life without sin, and willingly died on the cross to save us from sin and death. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who put their faith in
Christ and follow Him. Salvation can be found in Christ alone.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent to bless the world and proclaim the good news about Jesus and his kingdom.
We do this by the power of the Holy Spirit who lives inside all believers to equip, guide, and transform us into the likeness of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit also gives spiritual gifts in order to mature and build
up the church for the work of God in the world. The church consists of all followers of Jesus. Consequently, this congregation is only one part of the Lord’s church in Vernon.

Resurrection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.
